Once again, the cowardly GOP leadership sabotages Trump and his agenda by kowtowing to Democrats

Democrats do not have a congressional majority on Capitol Hill, but judging by the Republicans’ lack of ability to advance their agenda and that of the president of the United States, who just happens to belong to their party, you wouldn’t know it.

The latest budget “deal” which funds government operations until the end of the current fiscal year – Sept. 30 – contains no money – zip, zero, nada, zilch – for President Donald J. Trump’s campaign priorities. (Related: Read Trump loses endorsement of top immigration group after several broken promises.)

There’s no money to begin building the promised border wall (yes, Trump said Mexico would pay for it, but that money will come in the form of border taxes, taxes on remunerations from Mexican citizens sending money back home, etc.).

There is funding for Planned Parenthood, which Republicans have regularly vowed to cut.

There remains funding for so-called “sanctuary cities” that openly defy U.S. law and conditions for grants by refusing to cooperate with federal immigration authorities.

Additional money for refugee resettlement in America is also in the budget “deal.”

And of course, Obamacare subsidies are funded.

Meanwhile, the hapless Republican majority has been unable to build upon the incredible victories the party had in November, including electing a populist-focused nominee who managed to win formerly blue states for the first time in decades and deny the presidency to one of the most corrupt, criminally compromised candidates in the history of the country.

There is no forthcoming legislation that even begins to dismantle Obamacare, as both congressional leaders – House Speaker Paul Ryan and Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell – promised just days after the election. A piece of legislation the White House hoped would garner enough Republican support to do just that appears ready to stall again, meaning Americans will continue to endure the lousy, costly and unworkable system Democrats and Barack Obama bestowed upon the country.

There is no forthcoming legislation that begins to roll back the onerous, punishing tax code.

And now we learn that none of this may even be possible for the entire first year of the Trump presidency – or maybe even the first two years, as Politico notes:

The congressional GOP’s protracted efforts to repeal Obamacare could exact a heavy toll on the rest of Donald Trump’s legislative agenda.

If repeal in the House is successful, action on some of the president’s top legislative priorities is expected to be pushed back to late this year or even next year, when lawmakers will be up for reelection and more reluctant to cast tough votes.

As reported by The National Sentinel, the GOP seems hopelessly inept and incapable of delivering on campaign promises made, unlike the president. (Related: Read GOP Establishment Proving To Be Trump’s Biggest Obstacle To Passing His Agenda, Not Democrats.)

“It seems that, after all is said and done, when it comes time to actually deliver on the promises they’ve made, GOP leaders (and many within the Republican ranks) have no stomach for governing, no will for opposing the Left, and no ability to understand the mandate voters have repeatedly given them for the past six years,” the news site noted. “It’s now crystal clear they are beholden to their donors, who love open borders, big government, competition-stifling intervention in the economy, and control of the masses.”

There is still time for Republicans to come together and pass major parts of their agenda, and Trump’s, using the budget reconciliation process, which only requires a majority vote in both chambers of Congress. However, time for that is running out. If the party decides it can’t come together on basic campaign pledges, there is no reason for Republican voters to believe that existing Republican lawmakers can pass anything remotely pertaining to their “stated” agenda and the president’s agenda.

So 2018 could very well be another watershed year in which populist-minded voters support candidates who, like the president, are beholden to them and who want to blow up the establishment that is destroying the country.
